Methodology

VoC provides support & protection for the Street Children & Vulnerable Families

  • VOC uses a step wise model for the gradual development of children living or working in the street to reintegrate them in their family or community and make them self sustain. It takes into account the needs of the children and prepares them for future by providing basic needs, psycho-social counseling, education, life-skills trainings, vocational trainings, job placements etc. In this duration they also frequently visit their family and involve in social activities & interactions which helps them to understand about the importance of family and social responsibility.

  • VOC uses this methodology for family development program. To identify the target area, the team visits as many as potential areas to have more global view of the poverty situation and to compare the areas with one another. Once the areas are selected, house to house visit is conducted to identify the vulnerable families. Some families may come directly to the social center and through referral from other organizations. Home visit is conducted to follow up selected families where they are provided psychosocial counseling and referred to other organizations as per their needs. Group discussion sessions are also conducted and some are invited to social center if they are unwilling to share their problem in front of their families & relatives. The team will decide to phase out the family after the assessment visit and such family continue to benefit from the program through social centers though there will be no more home visit from the staff. After six months of phase out, family's situation is evaluated for the sustainability.

Referent Social Worker (SW) Mechanism

It is the effective mechanism to know and learn about the children and their background in detail. VOC employs social worker wherein one SW is in-charge of a maximum of 5 children in centers. S/he develops a strong bond with the children of their group, understands and solves their problems and creates opportunities for them as per children's desire. S/he keeps the documentation of all the information shared by the children. Social workers listen the children always. Social worker observes the daily activities performed by the children and does evaluation of the progress in the behavior, confidence and participation with the beginning stage of children. On the basis of children performance, the social worker makes the plan of further work and prepares the family follow-up frame too.

Individual Follow-up

Individual Follow-up of children is done by the social worker in a daily basis in the centers. Social worker does the follow-up of child activities such as how the child talks, what s/he talks, how much is s/he likes to be friendly with the friend circle, what activity he likes to do, does he participate in the activities actively or not etc. Social worker also collaborates with other social worker for the follow-up of child. Moreover, Social worker assesses the child's behavior and activities that he does with the other colleague, social workers and other staff. Each child and family is followed through individual by making plan by themselves with assistance of trained and skillful social worker.

Process of Case Management:

Case Sharing

To maintain a proper case management file of each child served, referent social worker develops specific questions keeping in mind the necessary information needed for the socialization, rehabilitation and reintegration of the child. Information thus obtained will be shared and discussed within the multidisciplinary team.

Case Conference

When the referent social worker faces problems to deal with the specific case, s/he organizes a case conference to get support from other relevant team members in order to analyze the case. In the case conference social workers of the centers and psychologist do discussion upon the problem faced by the social working while working for the development of assigned child. The aim of the case conference is to find out an effective solution of the problem.

Case Referral

A personalized case service plan will be developed according to the needs and wish of the child. Before sending a child to rehabilitation center or reintegration Unit, the drop-in centre organizes a case referral meeting with multidisciplinary team. After case referral meeting reintegration unit starts to track the family. Once they manage to organize a family visit either together with child or alone, then the child is referred to rehabilitation centre. There are briefing and debriefing meetings before and after family visit with the concerned staff to provide feedback on the case development.

Case Transfer

Before transferring a child from the drop in center to rehabilitation or reintegration, referent social worker provides all information about the case to a new social worker including the individual case file.
