What compels the children to choose the street life?
Disintegration of traditional family structure
Family violence, alcoholic parents, death of one or both parents, remarriage, neglect and rejection (lack of adequate love and care) from the family members
Other reasons
Extreme poverty, lack of food, lack of education, attraction of the cities all worsened by 10 years armed conflict
Who is more likely to become a street child?
Children not living with their family
Children having escaped from their family and spending their days in the street
Children working in restaurants, factories, transports (tempo, microbus ...) , Domestic workers, porters, and rag pickers: all vulnerable due to long working hours, work pressure, low wages and verbal and physical abuses
What is a street child’s life?
No constraint, obligation or authority
Solidarity but danger: drugs, abuses (moral, sexual, violence, disease, cold)
