Celebration of International Street Children’s Day 2020

VOC children are celebrating the International Street Children’s Day since 2011 by organizing a recreational program. It is conducted in the leadership of Child Development Club where children living in the Drop-In-Center and Socialization Center including the children of Reintegration Program and Family Development Program are participated and enjoy the day performing various talents such as dance, songs, poems, skits etc.

This year the COVID-19 Pandemic brought the worldwide crisis and since 24th March Nepal Government as well announced the nationwide lockdown then after all the outings, excursion, and visits in the center halted. However, Child Development Club took the initiation to celebrate the day inside the center by involving in the recreational activities and finally children made it success as well.  67 children and 6 Social Workers were participated in the program. The aim was to celebrate this day to ensure the ‘Rights of the Street Connected Children’ by providing safe, protective and family based care’. The children also shared, ‘all our friend should have the access of basic facilities’

Children were divided into two groups according to their age. The younger children under 12 years played the ‘Musical Chair’ and the elder children above 13 years played ‘Spoon Race’. After the game, they performed the group dances, sang songs, presentation of poem & jokes. The children and Social Workers wished the ‘Greetings of Nepali New Year 2077’ and ‘Free the world from COVID-19’ in the same occasion among them. After the program, children expressed that they gained information about “International Street Children Day’ and rights of the children living in the street. Children were happy, entertained and energized to participate in group & individual activities.
