Success Story of Narayan paudel

I was not very happy with my family life. My dad died when I was very small and my mother remarried. There was always financial crisis due to which none of us had enough to eat. There was frequent disputed among the family members. Due to these reasons I always wanted to go somewhere else. I was very influenced by the remarks made by my friends about Kathmandu: attractions, facilities, free life, fun… Hence, I came to the city in 1998. But I found the city just the contrary of what I had heard. I started wandering in the street without food, proper clothes and nowhere to go. I knew nobody in the city and had to opt for anything for survival. I started begging and this is how I could survive in the street.
Luckily I met one of the educators of Voice of Children, who told me about the organization. I needed help so I went with him and stayed in the Children Home of VOC. The chance to enter the Children Home in 1999 was a big turning point of my life. I again got the chance of studying: I was enrolled in grade 1. Due to my ability and performance I got double promotion from grade 1 to 3, 3 to 5, 5 to 7 and spent 1 year each for grades 8, 9 and 10. Finally I passed S.L.C. (School Leaving Certificate) exam with good marks. I am pursuing Intermediate Level (2 nd year) at the moment.
In 2000 my mother and brother came to Kathmandu and succeeded finding me in the Children Home. After 2 years in January 2002, I was reintegrated with my family. Three of us started living together again in a rented room in Bhainsepati. VOC provided all the support.
I was very good in sports and I like Taek – won – do very much. I succeeded obtaining Black Belt, which authorized me to become Taek – won – do coach. VOC again trusted in my ability and gave me an opportunity to work as a games teacher in 2005. I am coaching smaller children till then. I am very happy and content with my job as I get a chance to be with the children.
