Successs Story of Arjun Bdr. Rawat
I went to India at the age of 14 and worked in 3 different restaurants as a waiter. The life in India was full of struggle: had long working hours, abused verbally and physically quite often by the employer, low salary…After working for about 2 years I came directly to Kathmandu in hope and search of better opportunities. I didn’t go to my home village in Dailekh as I had runaway. I had nothing to do in the big city and knew nobody. Whole day I used to wander in the street doing nothing. After 2 days I came across Bisaune in Chhetrapati. I stayed there for 2 – 3 months. The educators were nice to me and believed in me. So, I was transferred to the Home of Bisaune from where I could pursue my studies. I was enrolled in the eighth standard and passed my S.L.C. in B.S. 2060. I was indeed very proud of my achievement. The reflection back to my earlier days of struggle and hardships while I was in India and in the streets were horrifying. I wanted to move ahead. Upon completion of my S.L.C., I was professionally reintegrated by VOC: sharing a room with another boy, living independently (cooking, washing, buying food...), and attending training. VOC supported me for 2 years during which I took 3 different trainings: cook, photo lamination, computer (basic software and hardware). After completing my trainings, my struggle started again. It was not easy to find jobs in Kathmandu. Hence, left without any other choice, I started working voluntarily in Welcome Center of Bisaune as an educator. My association with Bisaune as an educator helped me understand the difficulties of the educators in dealing with the street children. It is indeed a huge challenge. Working as a volunteer educator for 4 months was very beneficial for me in terms of learning. At the moment, I am working in Bisaune as a part – time educator. I want to continue being in the development field as there is so much to give to others.
